Sherwood Whitson, age 91, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 21st, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late John and Bertha Thomas Whitson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Rosie Silvers, Ruby Grindstaff, Lois Gortney and Arby Renfro; brothers: Clyde Whitson, Park Whitson and Floyd Whitson.
Sherwood worked for a number of years at Farmer’s Federation, Roberts Chevrolet and Buick, owned and operated Whitson’s Auto Sales, then Whitson’s Vinyl Siding and Windows.
He will always be remembered as loving life, being humorous, having fun, and was always smiling. He loved his wife dearly, his family and his church family at Cane River Baptist Church.
Surviving is his loving wife of 72 years, Mae Thomas Whitson; sons: Mike Whitson and wife, Becky, of Burnsville and Randy Whitson and wife, Teresa, of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Cindy Cook and husband, Jimmy, of Mars Hill; grandchildren: Alechia Shinn and husband, Tracy, Adrian Whitson, Randy Whitson, Jr. and wife, Missy, Brett Whitson and Courtney Schlacter; great-grandchildren: Mattie, Eli, Jacob, Riker, Nolan and Paisley and his little dog “Teddy” who he loved. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
A private graveside service will be held in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Holt Whitson, Jr. and Rev. Matt Mills officiating.
