John R. Oscarson, age 71, of Burnsville (Yancey County, NC), departed this mortal coil on Tuesday, March 30th, 2021. Jack was born on April 20th, 1949 in New London, CT to Mildred Mary Chandler Oscarson and James Charles Oscarson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Steve. John graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and worked as a research scientist for Pfizer, Inc. in Gorton, CT for 34 years. He retired to the mountains of North Carolina in 2014. He was an avid reader and golfer, and a member of the Mystic Seaport Museum for over 40 years. In North Carolina, he was active at OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at UNCA, a member of Grassy Creek Country Club, and of the North Carolina Arboretum.
Surviving is his wife, Martha Frazer Parry; sisters: Sharon Rogers and husband, Dana, and Lynn Sabin and husband, Wayne, and their four adult children.
