Roland McClellan, Jr

Roland McClellan, Jr., age 70, of Mullin Hill Road in Spruce Pine, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born on March 24, 1951 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Rev. Roland McClellan, Sr. and Crandle Weatherman McClellan who still survives.

Roland was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Senior Deacon and for many years as the Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He retired following thirty-three years of service from the Avery County Bank as their chief loan officer.

Roland loved the Lord, his church and church family. He truly loved his family, friends, and was particularly fond of his granddaughter, Alli. In his spare time, he loved fishing, sports, and carpentry work. He was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty years; Patricia Burris McClellan of Spruce Pine; his daughter; Shasta Rhyne and husband, Matthew of Newland; his son; Samuel Shane McClellan and wife, Stephanie of Spruce Pine; his mother; Crandle McCellan of Spruce Pine; his granddaughter; Alli McClellan of Spruce Pine; his brother; Dennis McClellan and wife, Sandy of Spruce Pine; and his niece and nephews; Melissa, Malcolm, and Sam.

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 5:00 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Shoupe officiating. Interment will be in the Harris Memorial Cemetery.
