The Yancey Fund awarded thirteen grants totaling $77,720 to Yancey County nonprofits in its recent grant cycle. CFWNC’s Bailey-Hilliard Fund also provided funding for these grants. The Yancey Fund, in partnership with The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC), has awarded grants totaling $1,277,683 million since 1998.
“These awards are possible because people who care about this community built a fund over time,” said Advisory Board Chair Gregory Stella. “Nonprofits have faced so many challenges over the past year. We are pleased to award these grants to help important community organizations address the needs of those continuing to suffer from the pandemic and to aid in our community’s recovery.”
The 2021 grants are:
$6,500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina to recruit, screen, train and place mentoring volunteers with disadvantaged youth.
$2,500 to Creating a Family for group facilitators and materials that will provide help and resources to caretakers of abused children.
$1,859 to Double Island Fire Department to purchase a new base station radio and antenna.
$10,000 to Feed-A-Child WNC to support construction of a permanent facility for food distribution to children from low-income families.
$2,125 to Parkway Playhouse to purchase four computers and a printer to help with theater operations.
$6,000 to Partners Aligned Toward Health (PATH) to support a summer food program for food-insecure families.
$6,000 to Pisgah Legal Services for civil legal assistance to low-income people.
$3,000 to SEARCH to support healthcare communication and advocacy efforts.
$5,175 to Southern Reconciliation Ministries for community kitchen equipment.
$10,000 to Toe River Aggregation Center Training Organization Regional (TRACTOR) to provide locally-grown produce to food-insecure people.
$6,000 to Tri-County Family Center to repair its roof and pave its parking lot.
$10,000 to WAMY Community Action for its housing repair program.
$8,561 to Yancey County Sheriff’s Office for a program that helps locate missing people with cognitive issues.
In 1998, local residents established The Yancey Fund as a permanent charitable endowment to meet local needs. Gifts added to the Fund’s principal are preserved and invested, while grants from the Fund support nonprofits in Yancey County.
