Mitchell County will receive $1.3 million in Golden Leaf Grant funding. Over $775,000 will go to the Town of Spruce Pine for the waterline project. Mayland Community College’s Pinebridge Project will receive over $530,000. The spruce Pine waterline project will bring 5300 linear feet of new, high pressure waterline from the Town Hall to McDonald’s on Hwy 226. Also current 6 inch line will be upgraded to an 8 inch line, allowing for future economic development in the area. The Town of Spruce Pine will contribute $100,000 to the project. Mayland’s funds will be used for a new HVAC system at the Tree Peaks Enrichment Center, where Mayland will have education and workfoce training. .
