Mitchell County will soon get an additional helicopter landing site for Mission Health’s Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) and for Wings Air Rescue. Mitchell County Commissioners recently agreed to the use of a 30 by 30 foot county owned plot located in the Ledger community for a helipad for emergency medical operations. A 10 year lease was approved unanimously. The need became evident recently when a helicopter had issues landing at Mitchell High School due to power lines, lights and other obstructions. A new grass landing zone will be particularly valuable for the northern end of the county but is an asset for the entire county.
