Jim Shepherd

Jim Shepherd, age 83, of George’s Fork, passed away on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Boyd and Ethel Metcalf Shepherd. He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Shepherd; grandson, Landon Ray, and brothers: Bill Shepherd and John Shepherd.

Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Kearsarge from 1954 to 1958.  Jim’s family owns and operates Steve & Angie’s Tire Shop in Burnsville where he also worked. Jim was also a mason and built many homes and structures throughout the county.

Everyone that knew him loved him.

After retirement, he loved socializing with his friends.  He loved hanging around the tire shop talking to the boys.  Jim also enjoyed spending time playing cards and telling stories with his son, Chris.  In his last years, Jim just enjoyed life, spending time with his family and special companion, Karen Robinson of Weaverville, and her family.

Surviving is his son, Chris Shepherd, of Burnsville; daughters: Joy Brooks and husband, Paul, of Marion, and Vickie Peterson and husband, Randall, of Green Mountain; sister, Naomi Anderson, of Mars Hill; stepchildren: Aaron and Tim Randolph, and Angie Bostic; fourteen   grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Several other extended family members also survive, along with his favorite dog, Solo.

At Jim’s request, no services are planned.
