Virginia Bailey Tipton

This life ended for Virginia Lorene Bailey Tipton, age 78, on June 1st, 2021 at Madison Health & Rehabilitation in Mars Hill, NC.

She was the daughter of the late Glen and Ruth Ray Bailey of Bailey Branch, born in the Marion, NC hospital on February 23rd, 1943. Death results from brain injury as a result of a fall in her home.

Virginia attended elementary school at Clearmont and graduated from Cane River High School in Yancey County in 1961. Thereafter, she was employed by a number of garments producing businesses in Yancey County as a seamstress until she was disabled by an automobile accident decades later.

At her death, animals in the county have lose the person who loved them most dearly. Even when a patch of weeds was removed for farming, she would say sadly, “what is a poor rabbit to do for a home?” She would have agreed with Felix Salten (author of Bambi) in his book, Fifteen Rabbits, who remarked, “If you would keep men from becoming animals, you must learn to see animals as men.” A high compliment was paid her by a neighbor of close and life-long acquaintance who said, “I have never known her to tell a lie.” A remarkable model for behavior for a good person, indeed!

Virginia is survived by her husband, Donald Tipton of Jacks Creek, Burnsville; a brother, Lloyd Bailey, Sr. of Durham (NC); a half-sister, Doris Gibbs of Las Vegas (NV); a half-brother, Donald Gibbs of Fletcher (NC); and nephews: Lloyd Bailey, Jr. of Celina (TX), Ethan Bailey of Greensboro (NC), Edmond and Ansel Bailey of Durham (NC), and Aaron Bailey of Cary (NC).

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 4th at 1 p.m. in the Bailey Branch Cemetery. Reverend Phillip Garland will officiate.

Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Tipton family.
