Phillip Jarrett, age 78, of Hamburg Road in Bakersville, the Bear Creek community, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.
Born on November 27, 1942 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Norman and Marie Pitman Jarrett.
Phillip was a lifelong member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed joking and having fun with them. He also took pride in sharing pieces of chewing gum and having a quick witted remark with them. He retired after forty years of service with the Waldensian Bakery. He was known far and wide as, ‘the bread man’.
Phillip helped to organize one of the first youth football teams in Mitchell County, the Ledger Falcons. All totaled, he coached youth sports for twenty years. He also was a member of the Mitchell High School football chain crew for a number of years. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping and playing golf. His favorite sports teams were the U.N.C. Tar Heels, Washington Redskins, and L.A. Dodgers.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-nine years; Patsy S. Jarrett of the home; his sons; David Jarrett and wife, Lesia of Gray, TN and Danny Jarrett and wife, Lorie of Bakersville; his grandchildren; Ryan Jarrett and wife, Brittany of Nashville, TN, Cameron Jarrett of Johnson City, TN, Jake Jarrett and wife, Brittany of Bakersville, and Anna Sutton and husband, Matt of Black Mountain; his great grandchildren; Zayn, Cora, Ensley, Eleanor, Abigail, and Vida; his brother; Richard Jarrett and wife, Nora Nell of Bakersville; his sister; Alice Grindstaff and husband, Kenny of Bakersville; nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 3:30 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Bruce Cannon and Matt Sutton officiating. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to their Bear Creek Baptist Church family for all of their love and support during Phillip’s illness.
