Grants from Mtn Air Community Fund and Pilots Association

Mountain Air Community Fund and the Mountain Air Pilots Association have made final decisions on 2021 grant awards and the amount totals nearly $100,000. According to Community Fund grant chair Lonnie Ross, “It was a difficult decision because we received a record number of requests.  Of the twenty-three requests, thirteen best aligned with our guidelines and mission.”

This year’s grants went to:

Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center for Summer camp for 48 kids.

Young Foundation Center for Pioneer Life for a study program for 65 kids about Yancey heritage.

Dig In!  for converting sheds into wash/refrigeration units.

Easter Carolina University Dental program for 30 Yancey County low income residents.

Feed-a-Child for healthy snacks for hundreds of free/reduced lunch students.

No Barriers for an Online Life Challenge program for all Mountain Heritage High School students.

Parkway Playhouse for Summer magic and playwriting program for 50+ students.

RAMP Team for building home ramps for disabled in Yancey County.

Pisgah Legal Aid for Legal aid services.

TRACTOR for purchasing a bar scanner to increase efficiency.

WAMY for repairs for low income family homes in Yancey County.

Yancey County Schools for the Mountain Air program providing backpacks and school supplies to every student K-12.

Yancey Humane Society for purchasing food pantry provisions.

 

The Mountain Air Pilots Association is awarding ten college scholarships to Mountain Heritage High School seniors for their freshman year college expenses. All of the money was raised last year from generous property owners.
