Rescue Crews from Yancey County performed a rescue of an injured hiker Wednesday. The hiker was on the Black Mountain Crest Trail which is on rugged terrain and is the highest elevation hiking trail east of the Mississippi. The rescue operation lasted around 10 hours and the patient was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Personnel from the Yancey County Rescue Squad, Pensacola Fire Department, Burnsville Fire Department, NC Forest Service, Yancey EMS, Yancey County Emergency management and Yancey Communications all worked together for this successful rescue.
