Reverend Burl Dean Grindstaff

Reverend Burl Dean Grindstaff, age 89, of Phillips Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on September 13, 1931 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Lucien and Virgie Ledford Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother; Van Grindstaff; his sister; Violet Hilemon; son; Keith and grandson; Zack.

Rev. Grindstaff was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. He had been in the ministry for sixty years and had pastored various Baptist churches in Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey Counties during this time. He loved the Lord, studying, and preaching the gospel of Jesus. He also adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. Anyone who ever met Rev. Burl Grindstaff immediately loved his humble nature and dry sense of humor. He was known as a Godly, kind and compassionate man. Burl was also a combat veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-seven years; Eudena Johnson Grindstaff of the home; his son; Dean Grindstaff (wife, Samantha); his daughters; Sandie Grindstaff and Sharon Gillespie (husband, Tim); all of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Andra, Anthony, Aaron, Alex, Ayla, Chase, Cole, Jordan, and Katelynn; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Bible Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Friday, July 16 2021 at 2:00 pm at Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Clayton McKinney officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
