Peggy Higgins Johnson

Peggy Higgins Johnson, age 70, of the Green Mountain Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 13th 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Ruth Peterson Higgins and the late Dean Higgins. Peggy was a lifelong member of Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always helping the community and loved watching her grandchildren play ball.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Ruth, is her loving husband of 53 years, Michael Johnson; sons: Chris Johnson (Kim) and Shane Johnson (Amy) all of Burnsville; grandchildren: Haley Wilson (Kevin), Erika Fox (Austin) and Bailey Johnson; great-grandchildren: Hayden, Sawyer and Asher Wilson and Ryder, River and Nash Fox; sisters: Amelia Hoilman and Debbie Higgins; special niece, Megan McKinney (Brandon) and great-niece, Addison McKinney. Many other close family and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 15th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Marvin Hensley and Rev. Todd Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Double Island Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Wilson, Austin Fox, Bailey Johnson, Hayden Wilson, Russell Fox, Max Fox, Brandon McKinney and Sawyer Wilson.
