Thelma Hughes Tipton

Thelma Hughes Tipton, age 90, of Brummetts Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 13th at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.  A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Nealy and Pearl Miller Hughes.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Tipton; sister, Bette Hughes Masters; brother, Neal Hughes and nephew, Steven Masters.  Thelma was a member of Brummetts Creek of the Brethren Church.  She enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, her flowers, puzzles, watching TV, calling her friends and especially spending time with her family.

Surviving is her daughter, Marcia Hoilman and husband, Bradley; grandchildren: Shaina Burleson and husband, Coty and Joshua Hoilman all of Green Mountain; great-grandson, Hunter Burleson and one on the way and a brother, Vaughn Hughes of Brummetts Creek.

Funeral services  will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 17th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Darrell Tipton and Rev. Kent Murphy will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Whitson Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Joshua Hoilman, Michael Murphy, John Murphy, Jonah Bowling, Gator Bowling and Coty Burleson and honorary pallbearer, Bradley Hoilman.
