Joseph Francis Mallardi

Joseph Francis Mallardi, age 78 of Delray Beach, Fl., passed away peacefully in his much-loved North Carolina home, Eagle’s Ledge, on June 24, 2021 after battling a longstanding disease.

Born in New Rochelle, New York, he was the son of the late Rocco Louis and Theresa Campo Mallardi. He is also preceded in death by two brothers: Vito Mallardi and Rocco Jr. Mallardi; sister-in-law and Rocco’s wife, Pamela Mallardi.

He served his country as a U.S. Marine and after an honorable discharge, Joe attended and graduated from East Carolina University, followed by a career in accounting. He raised his two sons, Dr. Reverend Rocco Joseph and Malcolm David, in Princeton Junction, New Jersey where Joe was active as a Boy Scout leader, guiding both of his sons to the rank of Eagle Scout. After his divorce, Joe retired to Delray Beach, Fl. where he met his loving wife, Susan. The couple loved hiking, camping, golfing, and bike riding together. They both fell in love with the mountains of Western N.C. where they have their second home. Joe was instrumental in helping establish a Marine Corps JROTC at Olympic Heights High School in Boca Raton. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, stepfather, and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Mallardi, of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law: Frances and Louis Miceli and Rose Ann and Rinaldo Ciuffetelli; his devoted brother, Anthony Mallardi; his two sons, Dr. Reverend Rocco Joseph, wife Janine and their four children, Caleb, Abigail, Leah, and Hannah, Malcolm David and wife Janice with their two children, Dylan and Rhiannon. He was a loving step–father to Cynthia Dozier and Katherine Kenyon and step–grandfather to Kylie and Ceyanne. He will be missed by all of us.

In lieu of flowers, please send any memorial donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. They are a nonprofit organization whose care allowed Joe to pass away peacefully in his home with his wife beside him. Truly Angels on Earth.

Final Mass Services will be held Thursday, July 22nd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Father Fred Worth will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Asheville.
