Norma Jean Branton, age 85, of Plum Branch, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29th, 2021, at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Garvel and Cora McIntosh Honeycutt. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Veronica Lynn Branton; son, Ricky Burl Harris; a sister, Nina Boone; and two brothers: Rev. Jerome Honeycutt and infant G.B. Honeycutt. Norma was a member of Young’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed hiking, working puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Surviving is her loving husband of 58 years, Wayne Branton, of the home; grandchildren: Dustin Lee Proffitt, Bobbie Lee Caldwell (Scottie), and Ethan Harris (Laken); great-grandchildren: Abigail, Hunter and Coralynn Caldwell, as well as Presley and Gabby Cook; sisters: Joyce Van Patten of Old Fort and Mary Burnette of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 1st, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Buck Thomason and Rev. Steve Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Young’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
