Espie “Bob” Rom Black

He was born on May 19, 1921, in Burnsville, NC, a son of the late Rev. James Holland Black and Lillie Honeycutt Black.

He was the President and owner of Black’s Auto Sales. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in which he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery beyond the call of duty. He served honorably in the European Theater. He will be remembered for his love of automobiles and auto racing.

His faith was the foundation of his compassion, generosity, joyful spirit, and kindness to all people.

He is survived by his sister, Maxine B. Pangle, of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren: James Ball (Michelle), Tammy Roberts, and Tony Ball; six great-grandchildren, four great, great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Special love to Susan Bullard, and John and Debbie Robelot.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Black Ball; a sister, Ruby B. Haynes; two brothers: Lloyd Black and Ralph Black; and his parents.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. on Thursday August 19th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow and conducted by Rev. Bruce Creswell and special friend, Jack Rogers.
