Riddle To Go From Yancey Commissioner To Clerk of Court

In a surprise move on Monday evening, August 16 at the Yancey County Board of Commissioners meeting, longtime board member Johnny Riddle resigned his position. After serving the board for 13 years Riddle resigned effective immediately. The week before he began working in the Yancey County Clerk of Court’s office in anticipation of Clerk of Court Tammy McEntyre announcing her retirement after 10 years in that position. She joined the office in 1985 as a Deputy Clerk. McEntrye did make her retirement announcement later in the week and said that Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Gary Gavenus accepted her recommendation and appointed Riddle to take over that position until the next election in 2022. McEntyre’s retirement is effective September 30th. Riddle will continue to work in the Clerk’s office until that time. The Yancey County Democratic Executive committee will appoint someone to fill Riddle’s term before the commissioners meet in September.
