Rev. Dennis Wayne Autrey, age 58, of Micaville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 19th, 2021. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Jewel Ray Autrey of Burnsville and the late Clinas Autrey, who passed away in 2001. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Autrey, his father-in-law, Clifton Briggs and brother-in-law, Tim Pitman. Dennis was the pastor of Peppers Creek Baptist Church for almost 10 years. He also loved driving for the Yancey County Transportation Authority and the friends he worked with. He also enjoyed deer hunting. Dennis will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, pastor and friend to all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memories in addition to his mother is his loving wife of almost 41 years, Deborah Briggs Autrey; mother-in-law, Louise Briggs; daughter, Jennifer Sheppard; sons: Dennis Dwayne Autrey and Justin Autrey and his wife, Michelle; grandchildren: Kylie, Deaus, Alexander, Ivey, Jackson, Brielle, Talon and Coraline; sisters: Glenda McMahan (Ronnie) and Brenda Turner; brothers: Michael Autrey (Sabrina) and Ronnie Autrey (Melissa); and a sister-in-law, Judy Autrey. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ralph Hedrick and Rev. Trent Honeycutt will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Briggs Cemetery on Sam Jones Road in Micaville.
