Yancey Receives Grant For New Healthcare Clinic

At its August meeting the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority announced their approval of a $200,000 building reuse grant to be awarded to Yancey County to support Mountain Community Health Partnership’s new healthcare clinic located in Burnsville.  As stated in Governor Roy Cooper’s press release through the North Carolina Department of Commerce “a $200,000 grant will support the reuse of a 2,916 square-foot building in Burnsville.  Mountain Community Health Partnership, which provides primary care, pregnancy care, and behavioral health care, plans to establish a new office at this location.  The clinic expects to create 16 jobs with a private investment of $255,573 in the project.”

“Ready access to healthcare is a concern for all rural communities such as Yancey County.  We are very excited to partner with Mountain Community Health Partnership as they grow their services in Yancey County with the new addition of the Burnsville Clinic along with the Celo clinic.  This new clinic will provide a better diversity of healthcare options and service provider choices to our people, as well as creating 16 new, well-paying jobs in the healthcare sector in our county” said Yancey County Economic Development Director Jamie McMahan. “I want to express my thanks to Lynn Austin, Yancey County Manager, and to the Yancey County Commissioners for their support for and dedication to this project and all our economic development projects and initiatives in Yancey County” added McMahan.

Responding to the grant announcement, Mountain Community Health Partnership issued the following statement:

“We thank Governor Roy Cooper and the NC Department of Commerce for approving our building reuse grant request. We are especially grateful to Jamie McMahan, Yancey County EDC Executive Director and Lynn Austin, Yancey County Manager, for their assistance in obtaining this funding and the support they have provided Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP) towards opening a primary care clinic in Burnsville. This expansion will allow us to better serve the medical needs of Burnsville and western Yancey County while adding new jobs in the area.

These funds will be used to renovate our facility on Pensacola Road, next to Yancey DHHS. The renovations will be completed and open to serving patients early in 2022. We will offer primary medical care and behavioral health services at this location. This expansion is part of our goal of expanding primary care services to all of Yancey and Mitchell counties. In addition to this facility, MCHP offers a wide range of services at its other locations in Celo, Spruce Pine and Bakersville. Those additional services include Care Management, Clinical Pharmacy, Dental, Peer Support and Community Health Workers. For more information visit our website at www.MCHP.care”
