Mary “Jodee” Storrs, age 101, passed away on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 at her home. A native of El Paso, TX, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Mary Ella Wadlington Wynne.
From a little girl wrapping towels on her feet, skating across to clean floors of the Philippine bungalow where her father, the Colonel, was stationed, to riding out with her sister on a morning exercise of the Colonel’s Cavalry horses, to teaching Native American needlework at the University of Texas – El Paso, to creating a beautiful garden at her farmhouse in Green Mountain, NC, Jodee was a dynamo of creative energy and curious adventure. Living to the remarkable age of 101, she still had stories to tell (even if the facts shifted with creative license and failing memory). Her love of the desert and love of the mountains found expression in her textile art creations, many of which were for her grandchildren. Her grandson slept under a tapestry of a dragon. Her granddaughter slept under a quilt she made. Her great-grandchildren entertained her by mixing “slime” with her and chasing each other around her chair, much to her glee. Jodee slept under a Native American design blanket from her son’s mother-in-law, and kept warm under the cap her daughter-in-law crocheted. She is much loved, and will be terribly missed. She is the conductor of her own train now. May she continue to travel far.
She is survived by her son, Robert W. Storrs, IV of Green Mountain; daughter, Mary Lee Storrs also of Green Mountain; grandson, Robert W. Storrs, V of Asheville; granddaughter, deployed, Rep. of Korea, Pvt. Julia Bridges Storrs; daughter-in-law, Donna J. Storrs of Elizabethton, TN; granddaughter-in-law, Kathleen Gallagher of Elizabethton, TN; great-granddaughter, Khloe M. Gallagher of Elizabethton, TN and great-grandson, Jackson Bennett also of Elizabethton, TN.
