Roger Stewart, age 67, of Creed Pitman Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on December 8, 1953 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Paul and Jeanette Gortney Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother; Bill Stewart and his sister; Carolyn Grindstaff.
Roger loved his children and was particularly fond of his grandchildren. He loved life, having fun and laughing. He also enjoyed listening to music and his cats.
Roger was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved sports in general and was a huge football fan. His favorite football teams were the Indianapolis Colts and the Mitchell High School Mountaineers. He look forward to ‘Football Friday Night’ with Mitchell football. He was also a NASCAR racing fan and was a Jeff Gordon fan.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughters; Shannon Ledford and husband, John of Penland and Hollie Davenport and husband, Cody of Kingsport, TN; his son; Cody Stewart of Spruce Pine; and his grandchildren; Kendra Ledford; Peyton and Zion Stewart.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Freedom Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. Cass Buchanan officiating. Interment will be in the Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery.
