Jean Pitman

Jean Pitman, age 85, of Beaver Creek Road in Spruce Pine, graduated Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born on September 23, 1936 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter the late Enlow and Lessie Biddix Pitman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse C. Pitman who passed away in 1988 and a brother, Lee Ray Pitman.

Jean was a faithful member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and served on the food committee for a number of years and worked in the care ministry. She worked in food service in health care for forty-five years.

Jean was a loving and kind person that was always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking and sharing delicious home cooked meals with family and friends. She was a thoughtful person that never forgot to send get well cards to the sick and remembered to send birthday and anniversary cards. She always put the needs of everyone in front of herself. She was a faithful member of the North Carolina Baptist Relief Team. Recently, she served with the Canton and Cruso disaster relief program.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter; Linda Pitman and husband, Sid of Spruce Pine; her sons; Dr. Rocky Branch and wife, Janice of Spruce Pine and Chris Pitman and wife, Pam of Bakersville; her grandchildren; Jeremy, Jennifer, Alicia, Aaron, Mallory, and Jesse; six great grandchildren; her sisters; Polly Crowder of Spruce Pine and Ruth Ann Doane of Burnsville; her brothers; C.L. Pitman and wife, Peggy of Black Mountain; Jim Pitman of Hampton, TN, and Randy Pitman and wife, Linda of Newland; her sister-in-law; Elsie Pitman of Statesville; her extended family; Claudia and David Honeycutt and family; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Berry Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Williams and Dr. Rocky Branch officiating. Private graveside services and burial will be in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
