Born on November 27, 1951 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Mack Hodge and the late Leona Burrow Hodge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Huffman and a brother, Joel Hodge.
Sandra was a member of the Altapass Baptist Church. She was retired from Baxter Healthcare after forty years of service.
Sandra loved taking cruises, traveling, and exploring. She was particularly fond of traveling to New Orleans and enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. In her spare time, she also enjoyed reading. Above all else, Sandra was a loving, dedicated, caring, big-hearted, full-time Mother to everyone who was lucky enough to call her Mom or Ding-Ding.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Donnie Vickers of Spruce Pine; her sons; Jamie Vickers and Daniel Hodge both of Spruce Pine; her stepdaughter; LaDonna Vickers of Ty Ty, GA; one grandson; Drake Hodge of Spruce Pine; her brothers; Dale Hodge and Jerry Hodge and wife, Peggy both of Spruce Pine and her sister; Brenda Slagle and husband, Robert of Spruce Pine; two very special adopted grandchildren; Makenna and Raychel; several nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Altapass Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Altapass Baptist Church with Dr. Marcus Benfield and Rev. Keith Beck officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Darell (Bull) Dulaney, Jerell Carpenter, Drake Hodge, Greg Huffman, Mike Hughes, and Dewayne Drawdy.
