Truck and Trailer Accident

Around 10:15am Thursday morning, Yancey County 911 dispatched multiple departments to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Mountain Air, involving a truck and trailer that went over an embankment and struck a building.

It was initially reported that the truck crashed into a condominium and could possibly be on fire. Once units arrived on scene it was found the truck struck an unoccupied detached garage and was resting on its roof with no active fire.

The trailer was on top of the heavily damaged truck and paving equipment was scattered among the wreckage. The trailer was also hauling sealant which was spilled across the scene.

One man was trapped in the wreckage. Before emergency crews could attempt to extricate their patient the wreckage had to be stabilized with help from Decolas towing service. Due to the heavily damaged truck, spilled sealant and position of the truck on the bank removing the injured man took around an hour.

He was transported by Yancey EMS to MAMA helicopter which was staging at the private airport located inside Mountain Air Country Club. He was later treated and released from the hospital with no serious injuries.

Multiple fire departments and emergency crews responded to the accident.
