The Marion Police Department reports that a woman was hit and killed Wednesday night as she walked in a road near an intersection. The incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on East Court Street in Marion.
A woman driving a 2002 Jeep Wrangler had just traveled through the intersection of East Court and Yancey Street when she hit a woman walking in the road.
The driver immediately pulled over and called emergency services. Police identified the victim as 45 year old Catherine Renn. A preliminary investigation concluded that Renn was wearing dark clothing and was walking in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Police said heavy rain was falling in the area at the time, which was a contributing factor in the incident.
