Matthew J. Remillard

Matthew J. Remillard, born September 22, 1979 in Daytona Beach, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 29, 2021.

He was the son of Roger and Sarah Remillard, Port Orange, FL.  He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Teresa Lewis; infant sister, Simone Marie Remillard; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Concettina Maisano and paternal grandparents, Maurice and Mary Remillard.

Matt was a very accomplished musician and having taught himself to play the guitar, drums, piano, bass and a multitude of other instruments.  He also learned how to run sound, lighting and many other aspects of the audio video department.  He graduated Valedictorian from Warner Christian Academy in South Daytona, FL in 1997.  Matt had a passion for music and played guitar and drums for local youth groups and worship teams.  He eventually accepted a position to be the full time worship leader and youth minister at Christian Life Center, in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  This position eventually led Matt to Calvary Christian Center, a mega-church in Ormond Beach, FL, where he was the director of video production, sound and lighting.   Matt ultimately started his own company, Ascension Media, which became a very successful sales and consulting business.  Matt was a true visionary that accomplished anything that he set his mind to.  He was undaunted by any challenge and lived by the motto “the harder I work, the luckier I get.”

Matt and Abra always loved the mountains and had the perfect love story.  Matt had the confidence to do and try anything he put his mind to, so he ultimately moved to Burnsville, NC and started investing in real estate.   Matt and his family became members of the Shoal Creek Baptist church where he assisted with the worship team and the audio video department.  Matt was a very Godly, creative, kind, funny, talented, honest and generous man who will be missed by the multitudes of people who have been touched by his presence on earth.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Abra Lewis Remillard; parents: Roger and Sarah Remillard; father-in-law, Dan Lewis and his wife, Lojean, of Pikeville, KY; his children who he adored, Jacob, Andrew and Elizabeth; siblings:  Michael Remillard and wife, Traci of Port Orange, FL, Michelle Remillard of Edgewater, FL and Maurice Remillard and wife, Lisa, of Edgewater, FL and brother-in-law, Daniel Lewis of Charleston, SC.  Several other nieces, nephews, extended family and his church family also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10th at Carolina Memorial Sanctuary in Mills River.  His pastor, Rev. Merritt Taylor, will officiate.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will also be held at a later date at Shoal Creek Baptist Church and will be announced.
