Gary Lee Stam, age 76, of Robert Phillips Road in Bakersville, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on July 9, 1945 in Monroe County, NY, he was the son of the late Lee and Caroline Witt Stam.
Gary was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Woodworking Design. With his wife Lynn, he owned and operated woodworking studios in Rochester, NY and Coconut Grove, FL. Locally, he taught woodworking at the Penland School of Crafts.
Gary enjoyed building, renovating, and was known to always be working on various projects. He was an animal lover and was particularly fond of dogs. Gary and his wife, Lynn enjoyed traveling the United States.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of forty-five years; Lynn Allinger of the home; his son; Kevin Stam of Rochester, NY; Glen Unger of Manhattan, NY whom he considered a son; and his granddaughter, Liliana Stam.
