Born on May 3, 1934 in Guilford County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Lillian Bennett Bell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Max Gardner Cox who passed away in 1994, a son, Daniel Richard Cox and Mae Hollifield Bell who raised Peggy and she considered to be her mother.
Peggy was a member of the Grassy Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother that loved every member of her family. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds, chocolate, and studying family genealogy.
Left to cherish her memory is her sons; Charles Cox and Randy Cox both of Spruce Pine; her daughter; Dara Cox of Mt. Juliet, TN; her granddaughter; Sallie Harris of Smith’s Grove, KY; her sisters; Sara Bell of Edge Water, MD and Doris Rector of Virginia Beach, VA; her brothers; Eddie Bell and wife, Beth of Spruce Pine; Joey Bell and wife, Wilda of Weaverville; and Melvin Bell of Spruce Pine; several nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with Dr. Rocky Branch and Joey Bell officiating. Interment will be in the Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to the Rehab Department of Brain Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine, Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina and nurse, Laura Young, and Care Partners Solace Center for all of the wonderful care of Peggy during her illness.
