Dennis Buchanan, age 78, of Burnsville, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, November 29th, 2021. He was preceded in death by mother, Phyllis Bodford; step-father, Reid Bodford; wife, Bessie Buchanan; aunts: Shirley Canipe, Edith Phillips and Wilma Bailey and an uncle, David Buchanan.
Dennis owned and operated Dee’s Manufacturing until he retired in 2000. He was a man of strong faith with a heart of compassion. He loved NC Tarheel Basketball and corvettes. Most of all he loved his family. Dennis attended Victory Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons: Marc Buchanan and wife, Tammy and Tim Buchanan; daughter, Cindy McKinney and husband, Jamie; his only grandchild, Cody McKinney, who he loved and adored; aunts: Wanda Brown and Susie McIntosh; uncles: NR Canipe and Daniel Buchanan and cousins: Roger Buchanan and Dean Hensley, which were like brothers to him. A host of family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 3rd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Reverends Barry Jenkins, Travis Wynkoop and Rick Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pete Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services. Pallbearers will be Andy Brown II, Shannon Buchanan, Kenny Buchanan, Tommy Stamey, Jeff Hunter, Michael Crooles and Randy Canipe. At all other times the family will be at the home of Cindy McKinney.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Autumn Laws, Megan Chandler and the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for the wonderful care given to Dennis. Memorial donations may be made to the NC Baptist Childrens Home or to Hospice and Palliative of the Blue Ridge.
