Mitchell County Promoting The Outdoors

Mitchell County is continuing to work toward expanding outdoor opportunities. Commissioners recently adopted an Outdoor Recreation Plan. The new 124 page plan builds on previous outdoor recreation efforts and is not binding. Its goal is to further develop Mitchell County’s natural outdoor assets such as creating more river access points and trailheads. Walking, hiking, cycling, fishing and river floating activities make Mitchell County well suited for capitalizing on the growing outdoor enthusiasts’ trend.  The plan includes ideas for drawing outdoor recreation visitors from the recreation sites to commercial areas of the county. The plan also points out some of the problems moving forward with lack of lodging options and existing outdoor recreation businesses. One Mitchell County outdoor activity held the official ribbon cutting last week. The Riverside Park Story Trail project was completed and is now open with plexiglass covered displays for the book elements and an accessible audio system that reads the stories in English and Spanish. The trail encourages people to get outside and enjoy the stories as they walk around the Park.
