Wilma Stockton Garland,

Wilma Stockton Garland, age 88, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 3rd, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Earl Stockton and Bessie McKinney Stockton. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Garland, who passed away in 2002, and two sisters: Kathleen Silvers and Mary Higgins. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, shopping, jewelry, coloring, and playing Bingo with her friends at the Brian Center.

She is survived by two sons: Lonnie Garland (Connie) of Jonesborough, TN and John Garland (Sherry) of Burnsville; a daughter: Connie Garland of Mars Hill; a brother: Jay Stockton (Jacqueline) of Bakersville; seven grandchildren: April (John) Solesby, Chad (Kanitha) Riddle, Preston (Mary) Riddle, Ashley Morrow, Derrick (Kelsey) Garland, Alecia (Josh) Gaddy, and Caleb (Hailee) Garland; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service on Monday, December 6th with Rev. Jeff Fox and Rev. Preston Riddle officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Garland Cemetery in Bakersville. Pallbearers will be Caleb Garland, Josh Gaddy, Caden Riddle, Chad Riddle, Derrick Garland and Michael Sluder. The family will be at the home of John and Sherry Garland located at 985 Old Mine Fork Road in Burnsville.
