SBI PRESS RELEASE:
On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was requested by the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and District Attorney to investigate an officer involved shooting involving YCSO. The individual who was shot has been identified as Bobby Lee Byrd, Jr., 40 years old. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The SBI’s investigation into the officer involved shooting involving YCSO remains ongoing. Updates regarding Trooper Kevin Glenn’s condition should be directed to NCSHP. No additional information is available at this time.
