The latest COVID-19 numbers for the Tri-County area, released by the Toe River Health District, showed an increase in new positive cases detected in Avery and Yancey Counties and a decrease in Mitchell County.
During the period from December 13th to the 19th, Yancey County had 162 new positive cases detected, compared to 110 the previous week. Mitchell County reported 47 new positive cases last week and 60 the week before. Avery County saw 79 new positive cases compared to 62 the week before. Yancey County reported 2 new deaths attributed to COVID during the past week. The number of COVID deaths in the Tri County area since August 1st is now 50.
