Nora Buchanan

Nora Buchanan, age 95, of Green Mountain, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 17th, 2021 at Yancey House in Burnsville.

A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Rebecca Renfro Hughes.   She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard Buchanan, on January 7th, 2018. She was also preceded in death by six sisters: her beloved twin sister, Lora Peterson of Burnsville, NC, Vestal Warrick of Burnsville, NC, Ruth Renfro of Columbia, MD, Viola King of Johnson City, TN, Melissa Slagle of Mauldin, SC, and Zula McCourry of Simpsonville, SC; three brothers: Ernest Hughes, and twin brothers, S.C. and O.B. Hughes, all of Green Mountain, NC.

Surviving are three sons: David (Judy) Buchanan, Bobby (Carolyn) Buchanan, Dwight (Becky) Buchanan, all of Burnsville; and daughter, Brenda (Mike) Thomas of Weaverville, NC; seven grandchildren: Tabbatha (Randy), Heather (Tripp), Eric (Amy), Andy (Jennifer), Becky (George), Jamie (Emily), and Joshua (Whitney); twelve great-grandchildren: Tyler, Sydney and Quinn, Brayden, Elaina and Seth, Grayson, Dustin, David, Robbie, Heather, C.J., and Emma and Eli. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Nora was a homemaker who especially enjoyed gardening and sharing with her friends and neighbors. She loved going to church and was a faithful member of North Bend FWB for 80 plus years. She loved her family most of all and helping them whenever there was a need.

A family graveside service will be held on Monday, December 20th at 12 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery at Horton Hill. Reverend Phillip Hughes, her pastor, will conduct the service. The family request that masks be worn. A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to Medi-Home Hospice at 1955 Newland Highway, Newland, NC 28657.
