Mikel Dwight Penland

Mikel Dwight Penland, age 64, of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord at Mission Hospital on Friday, December 31st, 2021.

He was the son of Margaret Crain Young and the late Carroll B. Penland. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lee Penland.

He worked for the Town of Burnsville until his diagnosis of Parkinson’s forced him into early retirement.

Mikel loved the Lord and talking about the Lord to others. And most of all, he loved and cherished his family. He was passionate about hunting and fishing, as many first responders came to know. With the progression of his Parkinson’s, they rescued him many times out of rivers, local creeks, mountains and impossible ravines.

Surviving is his mother, Margaret Crain Young (Robert); his loving wife, Angela Phillips, of the home; daughters, Patricia Satterlee of Erwin, TN, and Margaret Penland; sons: Gabriel Penland, of the home, and Mikel J. Penland; sister, Wanda Robinson (David) of Burnsville; brother, Carroll B. Penland of Nebo, NC; and three step-children and several grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation at 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131 or Gideon’s International.

Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Penland family.
