Dennis Huskins, age 67, of the Newdale Community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 9th, 2022 at Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Floyd and Aurtherene Bolick Huskins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Gurley; infant brothers: Dwayne and Douglas Huskins and brother, Fred Huskins. Dennis was a founding member of New Beginnings Church where he was a Choir Director and Sunday School Teacher. He enjoyed Tar Heel Basketball, racing and fishing. He loved his family dearly and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Surviving is his loving wife of 35 years, Dorothy Murphy Huskins; children: Lauren Robinson (Charles) of Newdale, Jason Bennett (Melanie) of Green Mountain and Detra Bennett (Jason Roberson) of Denver; grandchildren: Ashlyn (Blake), Zachary, Carter, Callie, Charlie, Nash and Nova; sisters: Helen Hall (Donald) and Nancy Tipton (Oscar); brothers: Donald Huskins, Bill Huskins (Linda), Burl Huskins (Debbie) and Darryl Huskins (Donna) all of Burnsville and his special friends: Mike Grindstaff and Ronald Huskins. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Mike Grindstaff and Rev. Shane Cassida will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. At the request of the Huskins family masks will be required and they respectfully ask that anyone with any symptoms please not attend.
