Gene Ledford of Burnsville, NC went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was a lifelong resident of Burnsville where he owned and operated multiple businesses in transportation and farming. He enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was hunting trips with all of his hunting buddies, a round of golf with friends and family, outings and vacations with family and friends – which were many, a hard day’s work, just riding his tractor, or operating a piece of equipment, which he loved.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Ledford Hensley, and brother, Dale Hensley. Gene was a loving husband, Dad and Paw who showed his love daily. He married the love of his life, Brenda Ledford, in 1969 and they were married for 53 years. He had two wonderful children: a daughter, Tamara Jean King and husband, Jeff, and a son, Brent Ledford and wife, Heather; and 5 grandsons which he loved dearly: Josh King, Caleb King, Nathaniel Ledford, Adam Ledford, and Matthew Ledford. He also leaves behind a sister: Gail McDowell and husband, Steve; brothers-in-law: Donald Boone, and Brook Boone and wife, Bobbie; and sisters-in-law: Fern Whitson and Etta Vee Boone. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, all of whom he loved dearly. He cherished every moment he had with his family and friends.
Gene attended West Burnsville Baptist Church and had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He had a caring, loving and giving heart. He loved helping people, whether it was his kids, grandkids, neighbors, or strangers. His memories will be cherished, and he will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends, and loved ones.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 23rd, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ricky Ray and Rev. Barry Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Boone Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dallas Peterson, Duane Cassida, Stokes Austin, Mike Boone, Craig Thomas, Dale Austin, Steve McDowell and David Peterson.
