The latest COVID-19 numbers for the Tri-County area, released by the Toe River Health District, show the detection of new positive cases increased in Yancey County and decreased in Avery and Mitchell Counties.
During the period from January 17th through January 23rd, Yancey County had 328 new positive cases detected, compared to 295 the previous week. Mitchell County reported 210 new positive cases last week and 300 the week before. Avery County saw 239 new positive cases compared to 242 the week before.
Yancey County reported 3 more deaths attributed to COVID last week. The number of COVID deaths in the Tri County area since August 1st is 63.
