Margaret Elaine Collis

Margaret Elaine Collis, 79, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, passed away on February 13th, 2022, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Elaine was born November 18th, 1942 in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, the daughter of Thad and Ruby Washburn Collis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Thad and Ruby; brother; Bobby Collis; sisters; Mary Sue Collis and Betty Jean Scott.

Remaining to cherish Elaine’s memory are her brothers, Leon Collis (Faye Collis), Tom Collis (Pat Collis), and Roger Collis; her sister, Sarah Stump (Ross Stump); her nieces and nephews, Pat Beddingfield, Pam Bruney (Chip Bruney), Debbie Hobson (Kyle Hobson), Donna Craig (Chip Craig), Robbie Collis (Dawn Collis), Wayne Collis (Tina Collis), Susan Henderson (Greg Henderson), Sharon Torok (Kenny Torok), Lori Hall (Randy Hall), Cheri Guiliani (Renato Guiliani), Randy Collis (Melissa Collis), Steve Collis (Sandra Collis), Chris Stump (France Stump), and Mark Collis (Michelle Collis); twenty-seven great nieces and nephews; and twenty-two great-great nieces and nephews.

Elaine graduated from Harris High School in 1961. After high school, Elaine worked for 20 years at Carolina Shoe; then retired from Feldspar Trucking after forty years of work in 2020. Those who knew Elaine admired her for her strong work ethic.

Elaine will be remembered by her loved ones as a lovely lady with a heart of gold; she found joy in laughing, which many would claim was contagious. Elaine enjoyed reading a good book in the warm spring sun. Elaine especially loved attending Blue Grass festivals. In her spare time, Elaine often enjoyed the company of her dear friends, Judy Hise and Pam Williams.

Elaine was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church where she was an active member and played important roles on multiple committees. For twenty years, Sunday Meals were sponsored by Ms. Elaine as Church Hostess. Elaine was a member of Bible Study Fellowship; she was eager to learn more about God’s word. At Grassy Creek Baptist she enjoyed being a member of the choir.

A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Saturday, February, 19 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s Gene Self and Wayne Collis officiating. Interment will be in the Collis Cemetery.
