Nell Collis Howell, age 90, of Country Club Woods in Spruce Pine, the Swiss Pine Lake community passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on November 29, 1931 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Allie Dale Collis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Howell who passed away in 2001. Also preceding her in death was her son; Randall Howell; her brothers; Everett, Ray, and Johnny Collis and her sisters; Marie Glenn, and Edith Pitman.
Nell was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church. With her husband; Joe, she was the co-owner and operator of Joe Howell’s Store for fifty years. She enjoyed traveling and the highlight of her travels was a trip to China. Her church and church family were a big part of her life. In her spare time, she enjoyed her flowers.
Left to cherish her memory is her sons; Galen Howell and wife, Wendy of Parks, AZ and Keith Howell and wife, Jill of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Buck, Brad, Jessica, Caleb, Quinn, Alex, Jesse, Lauren, Brittany, and Amanda ,and sister; Doris Pitman of Mount Holly, NC.
Due to current health concerns, private graveside service and interment will be on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Troutman officiating.
