Johnny Avery Letterman, age 84, of the Plum Branch Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Andrew and Edith Hardin Letterman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Letterman Frey; brothers: Wade, Dee and Tommy Letterman; an infant sister and two infant brothers.
Johnny was a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church where he was a former Trustee, Superintendant and also taught Sunday School.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping, gardening and loved dogs.
He especially enjoyed going to Dollywood with his family and watching Fox News.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Mildred Letterman;
Johnny had special names for his children and grandchildren.
Daughters: Rhonda “Squirt” McMahan and husband, Glenn and Rita “Fuzz” Edwards and husband, Glen; sons: Ronnie “Harv” Letterman and wife, Marsha, of Spruce Pine and Mark “Boy” Letterman and wife, Julie, all of Burnsville; grandchildren: Nathan “Hump” Beckham of Burnsville, Victoria “Flubber” Robinson and husband, Jacob, of Burnsville, Evan McMahan of Burnsville, Austin “Nubbin” Letterman of Spruce Pine, Ryan Renfro of Charlotte, Anthony “Charlie” Letterman and Ashton “Jethro” Letterman both of Burnsville ; sister, Barbara Palmisano of Pennsylvania; brothers: David Letterman and wife, Ginger, of Burnsville and Danny Letterman and wife, Revonda, of Marion; sister-in-law: Elizabeth Letterman of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5th at Plum Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Kelly Bryant and Rev. Harold Ward will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dulaney Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
Soloist will be Rev. Dewayne Riddle.
Pallbearers will be: Nathan Beckham, Austin Letterman, Anthony Letterman, Ashton Letterman, Jonathan Letterman, Tucker Letterman and Phillip Carroll.
