Chloe “Nanny” Ramsey

Chloe “Nanny” Ramsey, age 89, of the Bald Mountain Community, entered into eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Burle Fender Wilson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Charles Ramsey, who passed away in 2002; her infant son, Glenn Charles Ramsey, as well as five brothers: Clifton, Boone, Ted, Ned and Jack Wilson.

Surviving are her daughters: Phyllis Ramsey, Brenda Edwards (Donald) and Glenda Higgins (Curtis); two granddaughters: Julie Letterman (Mark) and Joni Hughes (Daniel); three great-grandchildren: Anthony Letterman (Miranda Wilson), Ashton Letterman, and Mikayla Beysher (Austin); two sisters: Maude Williams (Floyd) and Gladys Wilson; brother-in-law, Tate Ramsey and sisters-in-law: Ima Jean Hendrix and Louise Ramsey.  Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Chloe was a member of Bald Mountain Freewill Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning, and was an excellent quilter.  One of her masterpieces was sent to Pope John Paul as a gift.  Chloe was known as “Mama/Nanny” Chloe to many children that were left in her care throughout the years.  She loved them as her own.  She was an avid storyteller.  Chloe enjoyed listening to gospel music.  Her family was her pride and joy.  She leaves behind many cherished memories of those who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  The Reverends Dwayne Riddle and Danny Hughes will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.  Singers will be Terry and Beverly Rice, Dwayne and Donna Riddle, and Tim Higgins.  Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 14th in the Johnny Ramsey Family Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Letterman, Kenny Ramsey, Anthony Letterman, Ashton Letterman, Austin Beysher, Austin Wilson, Mark Letterman and Daniel Hughes.
