Jimmy E. Gouge

Jimmy E. Gouge, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12th, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Yancey County, he was the last living son of the late Sim and Beulah Shuford Gouge.  He was also preceded in death by sisters: Ruby Jo Chrisawn, Pauline Brewer, Lucille Robinson and Pat Tolley and brothers: Nass, John, T.J., Ray, Doc, Tom and Phillip Gouge; twin grandchildren, Tyler and Evan Angel.

Jimmy was a life-long member of Blue Rock Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 55 years.   He was a US Army Veteran having served from 1956 until 1958 and in the Army Reserves for a number of years. Jimmy retired from Blalock Construction as a bridge foreman.   He loved the Lord and his children.  He enjoyed fishing and ginseng hunting.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Sylvia Hall Gouge; daughters: Teresa Angel and husband, Donald, of Burnsville and Marcia Simmons and husband, Terry, of Easley, SC; sons: Mike Gouge and wife, Denita, of Blue Rock and Stephen Gouge and wife, Ashley, of South Toe; grandchildren: Niki Maness and husband, Josh of Burnsville, Drew Angel of Burnsville, Dillon Gouge and wife, Sabrina, of Spruce Pine, Paige Angel and fiance, Derreck Thomas, of Burnsville, Riley, Landon and Lawson Gouge all of South Toe and great-grandchildren: Everly and Aida Maness and Oliver Gouge.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, March 18th in Blue Rock Baptist Church.  Pastor Kenneth Forbes will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Blue Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to Autumn, Miranda, Cheyenne, Naomi of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the special care given Jimmy and request memorial donations be made to them at 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
