Diana Woodward Gates, age 65, of the Possum Trout Community, passed away on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022 at her home. A native of Mecklenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Dorus “Lead” and Georgia Caldwell Woodward. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Wayne Boyer, mother-in-law, Dorothy Ingle and one brother. Diana never forgot a date. She enjoyed country music, camping, fishing, traveling with her husband and swimming.
Surviving is her loving husband of 36 years, Windol “Ray” Gates; daughter, Wendy Cooke and husband, Danny, of Burnsville; sons: Christopher Gates and Jasper Gates both of Gastonia; grandchildren: Lauren Gates, Jordan Gates, Tiffany Hazelwood, Samuel Boyer, Lauran Boyer, Bethany Cooke, Rachel Simmons, Sandra Simmons, Mercedes Cooke, Maverick Boyer and Garrick Pack; great-grandchildren: Matthew Cooke, Robert Sterett, Raeanna Cooke, Elise Fuller, Brandon Cooke II, Cheyenne Cooke and Amelia Hazelwood; sister, Scottie Smith of Rutherfordton and brothers: Randy Woodard and wife, Lucinda, of Burnsville and Shane Woodard and wife, Sonya, of Mt. Holly. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
