James Adam Buchanan, age 80, of Deer Park Lake Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at his home.
Born on August 31, 1941 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Rev. Audy and Viola Silver Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Audie, Jr. and Paul Buchanan, Sr.; his sister; Mary Lee Duvall and his grandsons; Corbin and Gabe Buchanan.
James was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Feldspar Corporation in Spruce Pine following twenty-nine years of service. He was the first licensed E. M. T. in Mitchell County and the second licensed auctioneer in Mitchell County. He was a member of the North Carolina Baptist Mens Association and graduated with his diploma from the Chicago School of Electronics. He served as Scout Master for Troop 501 and was a charter member of the Mitchell County Radio Patrol. In his spare time, he enjoyed being in the woods and working on his cabin. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-seven years; Judy Wheeler Buchanan of the home; his sons; Richard Buchanan and wife, Misty of Spruce Pine and Allen Buchanan of Spruce Pine; his daughter; Vicki Buchanan Whitemore of Graham, NC; his grandchildren; Ashley and husband, Brooks, Kyleigh, Camden, EmmaLou, and LeighLou; and his great grandchildren; Brooklyn and Brody; and his sister; Evelyn Hall of Harrisburg.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Friday, March, 18, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Berry Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral service will be Friday, March 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Berry Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Steve Williams and Greg Hollifield officiating. Interment will be in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
