Maggie Honeycutt Fender, age 90, of Georges Fork, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21st, 2022. A native of the Bald Mountain Community in Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Curtis and Gertrude Edwards Honeycutt, and the wife of Johnny Fender who passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son, Vance Hudgins, as well as five brothers and five sisters. Maggie was of the Baptist faith and loved collecting antiques and baby dolls. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets. One of her greatest pleasures was when the entire family got together to celebrate Christmas.
Surviving is her daughter, Norma Shepherd of Shepherd Branch; two sons: David Hudgins and wife, Debbie, of Georges Fork, and Butler Hudgins and wife, Becky, of Poplar; three granddaughters: Vickie Shepherd, Joy Brooks, and Autumn Brewer; four grandsons: Christopher Shepherd, David Edward Hudgins, Nathan Hudgins, and Curtis Hudgins; seven great-grandchildren: Starr, Dalton, Hannah, Everett, Savannah, Sawyer and Quincy; a brother, Rufus Honeycutt, and wife, Myrtle, of Possum Trot; and a sister, Doris Silvers of Burnsville.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 27th at 2 p.m. in the Watts Cemetery on Lotties Creek. Family and friends are asked to meet at Yancey Funeral Service by 1:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
