“Project Parkway” will get underway on April 23rd this year. This event prepares the Blue Ridge Parkway campgrounds and picnic areas for the 2022 spring opening. The Park Service is currently recruiting volunteers to participate in the clean up. The projects range from leaf blowing and limb clearing to leveling tent pads. Volunteers will work alongside staff and experienced National Park Service volunteers from 9 am to 12 pm.
In 2021, over 150 volunteers came out to help. Parkway officials say safety precautions are being taken to follow CDC guidelines pertaining to COVID-19. All work will be performed outside, and group sizes will be limited. Pre-registration is required.
