Strong winds kept Fire Fighters around WNC on high alert all weekend. Over 700 acres have burned in two fires in Swain County. Those fires threatened homes and caused evacuations. As of last night, those fires combined, were listed as 30% contained.
A fire in the Rebels Creek area of Mitchell County scorched several acres before fire services were able to bring it under control yesterday.
The National Weather Service has posted an increased fire danger through this evening because of low humilities and strong winds.
