Changes for the Yancey County Health Department

On March 21st the Yancey County Commissioners made the decision to withdraw from the Toe River Health District by July 1st this year. After July 1st the Yancey County Health Department will be a county department. The Toe River Health District and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services were both notified of the decision.

The Yancey County Commissioners made the decision at their regular April 11th meeting to partner with the local Federal Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which is Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP) for clinical services.

Yancey County will be providing all other health department services in house such as environmental health, WIC, family planning, public health education,  and communicable diseases, just  to name a  few.

The intention of this decision is to make more services available to the citizens and have the Yancey County Health Department to be a very dependable, well utilized service within the community.

By joining forces with MCHP it opens doors to more services and federal funds.

By state mandate, all counties in North Carolina are required to have a Health Dept with particular health services offered. A local Board of Health will oversee the services that the Yancey County Health Department will provide.
